Quick Getaway from Sydney: Half-day trip to The Entrance and Long Jetty

Looking for place to travel away from Sydney? Here’s a guide to explore The Entrance and Long Jetty with just a half-day to spare.

A few weeks ago, we had a quick getaway to the Central Coast. We’ve been avoiding the Southern part of Sydney simply because COVID-19 cases were prevalent there. We left Sydney a little past noon and reached The Entrance after 2 hours. Usually, the trip would take 1 hour and thirty minutes by car only; however, we needed to stop by an auto shop so that we could fix our car.

When we finally reached The Entrance, I was surprised to see quite a lively atmosphere in the middle of a pandemic.

Park at the Entrance

There’s this spacious park with a Ferris wheel and an arcade on the side. People were scattered everywhere since there’s so much to see and do. Families were taking their babies in a stroller, couples were holding hands while walking along the beach, friends were enjoying a good barbecue picnic, and kids were playing with glee.

The Entrance is known for something else other than its long white strip of white sand beach. At the park, every 3 pm, they hold a pelican feeding activity. They say that it was an initiative by the restaurant owners in the area. They gather their leftover food for the pelican birds to eat – btw, all these are hearsay. Anyhow, due to COVID-19, this activity is unfortunately temporarily suspended. But this isn’t to say you can’t find a flock of pelican birds here. In fact, a dozen pelicans gathered at the feeding site waiting for their snacks.

In our travels, we try to avoid the crowd because we can’t afford to get sick; so we walked farther away from the park. After a few metres, we saw several people fishing.

The estuary turned out to be a great place for fishing but sadly, we didn’t have time for it. It was almost sunset and we had one more stop before going home. We promised ourselves to come back one day with our fishing gear, barbecue grill, and friends.

Another quick getaway destination, our last stop that day, is the Long Jetty. It is one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever seen in the last few months.

The serene, still lake mirrors the grandiose canvas of the sky. In every passing minute, the landscape’s hue changes from yellow to orange, to purple and then blue – it was such a magical sight!

Long Jetty has been around for over a hundred years. Its history runs deep that the town is named after it. Had we arrived earlier or if COVID-19 was non-existent, we could have spent more time around. Long Jetty gives a hip vibe – it has small boutiques, vintage shops, quaint cafes, and graffiti art walls.

Enjoying your weekend doesn’t have to be extravagant nor should it take your whole extra time. As long as you have good company and a splendid place like the Central Coast, you’re in for a delightful treat ☀️
